Canadian worship leader and songwriter Brian Doerksen has passed away following a battle with Stage 4 cancer. He was 60 years old. According to the Gospel Music Association, Doerksen died peacefully at his family home on July 21, surrounded by his family.
Earlier this month, the Doerksen family had shared on his Facebook page that Brian was hospitalized while doctors investigated what was later diagnosed as Stage 4 cancer, asking the Christian community to join them in prayer.
Doerksen was one of the most influential songwriters of the modern worship movement, penning beloved songs such as “Come, Now Is the Time to Worship,” “Refiner’s Fire (Purify My Heart),” and “Faithful One.” His music has been sung in churches around the world for decades and helped shape contemporary congregational worship.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their six children. Please join us in praying for the Doerksen family during this difficult time.
