Matthew West Unveils Next Album — NewReleaseToday

Five-time GRAMMY nominee, two-time NSAI Songwriter-Artist of the Year and award-winning hitmaker Matthew West announces his 14th studio album, Jesus Is King, due Sept. 25. The 12-song collection is available for pre-save now, alongside the release of his new song, “Back to Jesus,” out today.

“I think I needed to make this record as much as I needed anyone else to hear it,” shares West. “Life has a way of making a lot of things feel bigger than they really are — our fears, our failures, the noise of the world around us. These songs became a reminder to my own heart that none of those things get the final word. Only Jesus does. Jesus is King. My hope is that wherever these songs meet you in your story, they remind you of that truth too.”

One of Christian music’s most consistent and decorated voices, West has built a career on songs that turn simple truths into lasting anthems. With Jesus Is King, he brings that gift back to the center, framing the project around surrender, redemption and the kind of faith that still holds steady when the world feels uncertain.

That message comes into focus on “Back to Jesus,” out now. Written by West with AJ Pruis, the song offers a powerful reminder that no one is ever too far gone for grace. The track finds West speaking to anyone who has wandered, carried shame or believed the lie that there is no way back. With a soaring chorus and a message rooted in redemption, “Back to Jesus” points listeners to the Savior who never stops pursuing them.

Jesus Is King serves as the follow-up to West’s critically acclaimed 2024 album Don’t Stop Praying, which GRAMMY.com noted “uplifts throughout its 12 tracks,” while K-LOVE praised it as “a masterclass in storytelling…proving 12 times over why he continues to be one of the best songwriters of our time.” Its title track, “Don’t Stop Praying,” marked the biggest streaming single debut of West’s 20-year career and spent two weeks at No. 1 at Christian radio, helping the project grow beyond a traditional album cycle and into a nationwide prayer movement.

The album announcement follows a major career milestone for West, who recently celebrated his 39th No. 1 song with “Good.” The feat added to a decorated career defined by West’s rare longevity and impact as a recording artist and songwriter. In addition to being named NSAI’s Songwriter-Artist of the Year twice, West is an ASCAP Golden Note Award recipient, ASCAP Songwriter of the Year nominee and a multi-year ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter-Artist of the Year winner, with more than 275 songwriting credits to his name.

Earlier this year, West released his latest book, “Don’t Stop Praying: The God Who Hears Is Just a Breath Away,” a personal, Bible-based look at the power of prayer. West will continue sharing his new music on the road this year with summer festival appearances, The Story House At Sea cruise through Alaska and a sold-out performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre on Aug. 4 alongside Chris Tomlin. Starting Sept. 10, West will bring Jesus Is King to audiences across the country on the 17-stop Jesus Is King Tour. Tickets are available now here.
