Daily Bible Verse and Devotion – Ephesians 4:26

Teen Devotion on Handling Anger

“When you are angry, don’t let that anger make you sin,” and don’t stay angry all day.  – Ephesians 4:26 (ERV)

I remember one time I was angry with my parents. I really wanted them to know how mad I was at them too. So I came inside the house, grabbed the handle of the basement door and slammed it as hard as I could. The door shut with a thunderous bang that shook part of the house. A second later, I heard a loud crash and the shattering of glass. I knew then that I was in big trouble. It turns out that my angry door slam shook the clock off the wall and sent glass shattering all over the kitchen.

I was angry and I allowed my anger to get out of control and it lead to me doing something bad. In life, it’s easy to be angry. It’s really easy to get mad at how someone is treated or at something that feels unfair in your life. And if you let it, anger will grow to the point that it consumes your actions and emotions and explodes into something potentially bad,  or damaging.

Today’s Bible verse doesn’t say that it’s wrong to be angry. There are going to be situations in life when we all get angry. It’s when we let that anger grow unchecked to where it causes us to sin that it becomes wrong.
