Jimmie Bratcher Turns Romans 6 Into Blues-Rock on “The Dead Man Speaks,” Featuring JHS Pedals’ Josh Heath Scott

Built around Romans 6, “The Dead Man Speaks” confronts the voice of a person’s former identity — the accusations, desires and patterns that can continue speaking long after a life has changed.
But Jimmie Bratcher says the answer is not trying to improve the old man.
“Jesus didn’t come to make us better. He came to make us alive,” Bratcher says. “Romans 6 says the old man was crucified with Christ. He may still speak, but he no longer has the
authority to tell us who we are.” Scott’s lead guitar became an important part of telling that story.
“When I heard what Josh was playing, I told him, ‘That’s the dead man mocking the lyrics,'” Bratcher says. “It was exactly what the song needed.” The guitar almost becomes another character in the track — the old voice answering back while the lyric declares what Jesus has already accomplished.
At 72, Bratcher continues writing, recording and carrying his music and message into places ranging from churches and blues clubs to correctional facilities and street outreaches. His previous release, “Waitin’ On The Man,” has generated more than 1.2 million views on YouTube.
“The Dead Man Speaks” will also be accompanied by a short book of the same name that takes the message deeper into Romans 6; identity in Christ and the finished work of Jesus.

Jimmie is currently working on more music with books to accompany the upcoming singles. He is currently on his “2026 Transformation Tour”. Traveling to prisons, underneath bridges in the Midwest, and places most ministers don’t go, where he performs his music and shares the message of hope with them.
