Jonathan Nelson Returns With New Single

Jonathan Nelson, the acclaimed songwriter behind some of the church’s most beloved anthems for more than 20 years, returns with a powerful new single, ‘When I Think (I Thank),’ just in time for your summer playlist.This song of gratitude is the product of a Pop Up Night of Worship that was recorded live in Baltimore ironically on the first day of Spring this year.

Nelson’s new song, “When I Think (I Thank),” is a heartfelt tribute to his father, Bishop James D. Nelson Sr. For years, Bishop Nelson inspired his congregation with the phrase, “Think about it and thank about it!”–a saying that would instantly ignite praise and worship. One day, those words came back to Jonathan, and the hook for this song was born. Rooted in gratitude, the song reflects how a simple memory of God’s goodness prompts him to respond with a sincere “Thank You!” As Nelson puts it: “When I think, it makes me thank.”
