Josiah Queen and Brandon Lake, with their collaboration “Can’t Steal My Joy”, have just dethroned Phil Wickham’s “What an Awesome God” from its reign of more than three months on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart.
The Christian Airplay tabulates a list compiled by Billboard Magazine, showing the most played songs on Christian radio in the United States for each week. “What an Awesome God”, a reimagination Rich Mullins’ 1988 worship classic “Awesome God”, remained in the leading position on the chart for a considerable time of fourteen weeks, making it the longest reigning song on the chart of the 2020s, followed by Lake’s “That’s Who I Praise”, JWLKRS Worship’s and Housefires’ “I Thank God”, and Jon Reddick’s “No Fear”, which each tied for second position with an even tally of ten weeks atop the Christian Airplay chart.
“Can’t Steal My Joy” rose up 2-1 this week on the chart to replace “What an Awesome God”, pushing the previous leader down to runner-up this week. The track has already been leading the Christian Adult Contemporary chart for the past four weeks. With this new peak, it marks Queen’s second number one hit on any Billboard chart (the first being “Jesus Is Coming Back Soon” with Forrest Frank, which opened as a leader on the Christian Digital Song Sales this October) and his first number 1 on Christian Airplay. It’s also Lake’s sixth leader on the Christian Airplay, as well as Lake’s third consecutive leader on the chart.
On the overall Hot Christian Songs chart, “Can’t Steal My Joy” drops to number 7 after last week, when it peaked at number 6.
