Contemporary Christian artist Lauren Daigle co-hosted this year’s CMA Country Christmas holiday special–which aired on ABC December 2–alongside Country music star Jordan Davis. The annual holiday television special features performances of classic Christmas carols by Country music’s top artists, and often features Christian and Gospel artists as well. At this year’s event, both themes of classic holiday fun and themes of faith were present on the stage.
Co-host Lauren Daigle delivered a festive, Jazz-inspired medley accompanied by the Preservation Band Jazz Orchestra, similar in style to her 2016 Christmas album Behold. Parker McCollum sang “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.”
Right alongside the lighthearted holiday classics we all know and love were gospel-centered songs that prominently featured the spiritual significance of the Christmas season. Lady A opened the show with a cover of “Angels (Glory To God),” worship artist Phil Wickham’s take on the Christmas hymn “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.” (Wickham posted about the moment on Instagram) Little Big Town and Jordan Davis performed “Go Tell It On The Mountain.” Gospel music icon BeBe Winans performed stirring renditions of “Children, Go Where I Send Thee” with Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks and “We Are The Reason” with Trish Yearwood, both songs carrying a clear biblical message about Jesus and what this season of celebrating His birth is about.
You can watch the performances from CMA Country Christmas on the Country Music Association YouTube channel.
